An Attack on Our Rights

The Supreme Court’s likely reversal of Roe v. Wade is a blatant threat to a free and equitable society.

Lack of access to legal and safe abortions will overwhelmingly and disproportionately harm Black and brown women, immigrant women, and all those who can least afford it.

It will threaten the economic security of millions, particularly in states with trigger-law abortion bans.

And it will strike a blow to our democracy, and all of our intertwined rights.

As Andrea Flynn wrote in a 2017 Roosevelt report, "the end goal of economic security is not financial stability in and of itself, but rather the ability to lead a life of freedom and dignity.”

Abortion rights are essential to that vision. We must protect them.

The Jobs Recovery Continues

“It's harder to create new jobs when the unemployment rate is already very low. If you look back since 1990 at the average rate of monthly job creation when unemployment was below 4%, you'd expect 175k new jobs last month,” National Economic Council Deputy Director Bharat Ramamurti tweeted today.

“Instead, we got 428k new jobs. An astounding report.”

This unusually quick recovery is no accident.

As Roosevelt’s Alí Bustamante reminds us, it’s been fueled by the American Rescue Plan.
