Dear MoveOn member,
Access to safe, legal abortion is access to vital health care—and we need to ensure high-quality health care to everyone in America. Health care is a human right. While Roe v. Wade is still the law of the land, we recognize now is the time for urgency and education on what resources are available for people if they need to safely self-manage an abortion at home. And now, it appears that the GOP's next priority after overturning Roe will be on eliminating access to self-managed abortions.1
For more than 20 years, medical advances have come forward to revolutionize how people experience abortion. We’re aggressive proponents of people being able to have an abortion on their own terms—without interference from the government, whether they seek that care from a provider at a clinic or self-manage at home.2
Right now, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn't allow mifepristone—a pill used to induce abortions—to be distributed to or dispensed at pharmacies, and this puts an additional burden on people seeking abortions. Not only do people have to track down a registered provider with their own supply, but strict registration and stocking requirements for mifepristone limit the number of providers willing to carry it. The FDA can make this a smoother, and more equitable process for all those seeking an abortion by regulating mifepristone like any other medication, without the additional restrictions.3
Currently, anti-abortion politicians are impeding progress by trying to prevent any one from being able to have a safe, effective and affordable abortion. But we cannot let people in power continue to ban abortion and criminalize people who exercise their right to choose. Abortion-by-mail can significantly reduce the harm done by right-wing, anti-choice legislation, but we need the FDA to take the necessary steps to make it as accessible as possible.4
If the right-wing justices on the Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade, we need to be ready to educate people on how to self-manage abortion safely. Anyone who chooses this option to end their pregnancy should be able to do so safely, effectively, privately—on their own terms. It’s crucial that we create a world where every person is free from stigma and shame and that we protect access to safe abortion for all.
Thanks for all you do,
–Nakia, Arvin, Jensine, Manny, and the rest of the team

Want to support our work? Right-wing groups are spending tens of millions of dollars on TV ads to smear critical progressive legislation. Meanwhile, donations to progressive groups like MoveOn are plummeting now that a Democrat is in the White House, meaning we don’t have the resources to fight back. That's a huge problem, and that's why we urgently need your support.
Will you chip in to fight right-wing lies and pass urgent legislation to confront the multiple crises our country faces?
