On behalf of my friend Maggie Hassan, I am asking everyone reading this to do your utmost to reelect the Senator come November.  

I’ve spent decades making films about pivotal moments in our country’s history. Our story is complicated, and paved with glory, conflict and sometimes shame. But I still believe in the great American promise, and in working to ensure everyone in our nation has every opportunity to realize that promise.

I've lived in Walpole, New Hampshire, for more than 40 years. I've seen the Granite State undergo a lot of change over the decades, flipping from red to blue and back again. But after all this time, I believe that 2022 will be the most important year in the history of our state — and our republic. 

This is an incredibly fraught moment in time. But there's no doubt in my mind that my friend Maggie is up to the task: again and again, the citizens of New Hampshire have been able to turn to her for thoughtful, inspired and impactful public service. 

The question is, will we be able to keep Maggie's indispensable voice in the Senate come November? With the Senate split 50-50, and with Washington divided, I believe her reelection will be an uphill battle – but I also believe Maggie is the person we need to bridge the gulf between the two parties that is wider now than I have ever seen.

Friend, I'm writing to you with such urgency today because the stakes are so high. Maggie won her last election in 2016 by a mere 1,017 votes.  That was one of the closest margins in American history. And that means this will be an extraordinarily targeted race. We need to have the resources necessary to turn out every last vote.  

Maggie is focused on delivering for families from Pelham to Pittsburg. We've got to redouble our efforts, dig a little deeper, and give what we can to make sure she wins this election.

So please, friend, I have to ask one more time: Will you make a contribution now – of $X, $2X, whatever you can spare – to keep Maggie's vital voice in the Senate and defend our majority?
