Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Christian Flag in Boston Free Speech Case

By: Bruce Hausknecht

In a unanimous decision, the U.S. Supreme Court declared a victory for free speech by ruling that in 2017, the City of Boston’s refusal to allow a civic group called Camp Constitution, and its director, Harold Shurtleff, to fly a Christian flag at its event held on city property constituted viewpoint discrimination.

In so doing, the court reversed a decision from the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston’s favor.

The court’s decision was written by soon-retiring Justice Stephen Breyer, who noted that Boston’s program of allowing civic groups to fly flags of their choosing at events and rallies held on a certain piece of city property had never included a single rejection of a flag until the request to fly the Christian flag.

After Supreme Court Leak, Lawmakers Will Vote to Enshrine Abortion Protections in Federal Law

By: Zachary Mettler

Monday night, the news outlet Politico published an authentic copy of a U.S. Supreme Court draft majority opinion overturning Roe v. Wade and returning lawmaking authority over abortion back to the states.

Though the draft is authentic, it is not final nor conclusive of how the court will eventually rule in the case.

You can read The Daily Citizen’s first story on the leaked opinion here.

Speaking from the floor of the U.S. Senate on Tuesday morning, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that given the court’s leaked opinion, Congress’ upper chamber will soon vote to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law.

“Now that the court is poised to strike down Roe, it is my intention for the Senate to hold a vote on legislation to codify the right to an abortion into law,” Majority Leader Schumer said.

“A vote on this legislation is not an abstract exercise. This is as urgent and as real as it gets … Every American is going to see on which side every senator stands.”

Last September, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Women’s Health Protection Act of 2021 (HR 3755) in a 218-211 vote.

Baylor University Officially Launches ‘LGBTQ+ and Allies’ Student Organization

By: Jeff Johnston

The Baylor University Board of Regents approved a “Resolution on a Caring Community, with “the possibility of establishing a new, chartered student group” for “Baylor’s LGBTQ students” in May 2021.

One year later, the university has announced the official formation of a new group named “Prism: Reflecting diversity, belonging, and opportunity in the LGBTQ+ community.”

The group states its intent to provide care, community and opportunity for LGBT-identified students in its charter:

“The mission of Prism serves Baylor University and its students through creating a respectful space that embraces diverse sexual identities (community) focused on continuous learning for the Baylor community, giving voice for LGBTQ+ students to the administration (care), and creating opportunities for all students to access resources through connection, belonging, and education.”

Students struggling with same-sex attractions and sexual identity do need care and support. But there’s no indication Prism (Get it? The rainbow?) will help students move toward healing, wholeness, a biblical identity in Christ, and living according to the biblical sexual ethic.

That’s not their mission.

Baylor has an undergraduate enrollment of more than 15,000 and a postgraduate enrollment of more than 4,500.

Corporate Propagandists Should Leave Charlie Brown Alone, Especially on Mother’s Day

By: Paul Batura

Just ahead of Sunday’s holiday, a brand-new Peanuts’ Mother’s Day special is scheduled to be released on Friday via Apple TV. It’s titled, “Snoopy Presents to Mom (and Dad), with Love” and it will feature all the beloved characters familiar to past generations: Charlie Brown and Snoopy, Linus, Lucy, Sally, Marcie and Peppermint Patty.

According to the trailer, the episode elicits all the familiar feel-good vibes of past shows, but with one major exception.

At some point in the program, Peppermint Patty shares the sad news that she’s never had a mother, but then asks her sidekick, Marcie, “There are all types of moms, right?” Her bespectacled friend replies, “Some kids have two moms.”

Sadly, many parents have grown accustomed to children’s shows introducing their kids to mature and complicated topics ranging from everything from human sexuality to race and environmental propaganda. It may go over the heads of younger viewers, but regular doses of anything begin to take their toll.

Peanuts creator Charles Schulz died in February of 2000, succumbing to cancer on the very day his last original comic strip ran in the newspaper.

26 States Ready to Protect Preborn Human Life in the Womb if ‘Roe v. Wade’ Falls

By: Nicole Hunt

In light of the monumental Supreme Court leak of the draft majority opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, now is a good time to revisit where the states stand on protecting life.

If the draft majority opinion is any indication of what the Court’s final decision might be, there is certainly cause for cautious optimism in the pro-life movement.

As reported by The Daily Citizen, “Chief Justice John Roberts has confirmed the authenticity of the Alito draft while warning that it is not the court’s final opinion.”

Come this June, or perhaps sooner, the Court will release the final opinion. Votes may change, but if they do not, abortion policy moving forward will be developed on a state-by-state basis.

Pro-life and pro-abortion groups agree that if Roe v. Wade falls, 26 states are already equipped or very likely to restrict abortion early in the pregnancy.

This is the time to pray and stay engaged in pro-life efforts in your state. If Roe is overturned, our work at the state-level to promote the pro-life movement will have more consequence than ever before.
