On Tuesday, Ohio and Indiana held their primary elections, and it was a banner day for radicals. All in all, 7 radicals are moving on to the general election in November. All are 2020 election deniers, 3 are expressly backed by Donald Trump, 2 played a role in the January 6th insurrection, 1 is a QAnon supporter, and 1 is an accused abuser. Here’s some more information about these candidates:

Rep. Jim Banks (Congressman, U.S. House, IN-3) : Banks blamed the January 6th attack at the U.S. Capitol on COVID-19 restrictions, which he says caused resentment among the American people, and called the public testimony of U.S. Capitol officers “scripted.” He voted against certifying Joe Biden’s win. Banks ran uncontested in the GOP primary.

Rep. Jim Jordan (Congressman, U.S. House, OH-4) : Jordan sowed doubt about the results of the 2020 presidential election weeks before Election Day. He then suggested to the American people that Joe Biden did not win the election, saying, “President Trump got 11 million more votes than he got in 2016, but somehow Joe Biden, the guy who barely left his house, won the election?” Jordan ran uncontested in the GOP primary.

Rep. Warren Davidson (Congressman, U.S. House, OH-8) : Davidson sowed doubt about the results of the 2020 presidential election and voted against certifying Joe Biden’s win. He defeated anti-Trump Republican Phil Heimlich in the GOP primary.

J.R. Majewski (Candidate, U.S. House, OH-9) : Majewski not only spreads 2020 election fraud conspiracies, but also is a QAnon supporter, having appeared on a QAnon show, used QAnon hashtags online, and worn a QAnon shirt on Fox News. He was present at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Madison Gesiotto Gilbert (Candidate, U.S. House, OH-13) : Gilbert is a staunch supporter of Donald Trump who not only backs his stolen election claims but spreads conspiracies about Democrats cheating to win the election using dead voters.

Max Miller (Candidate, U.S. House, OH-16) : Miller is a longtime Donald Trump adviser who played a central role in planning the rally that led to the riot at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. He has a personal history of physical abuse towards partners and driving under the influence of alcohol.

J.D. Vance (Candidate, U.S. Senate, Ohio) : Vance not only believes that there was massive fraud in the 2020 election, but he spreads conspiracy theories that Mark Zuckerberg was behind the fraud. He associates himself with extremists and gladly accepted the endorsement of high-profile QAnon believer Marjorie Taylor Greene, calling his political opponents “scumbags” in the process.

While this is sobering news, not every radical emerged victorious on Tuesday. Ohio Senate candidates Josh Mandel, Mark Pukita, and Jane Timken were defeated. All three have spread conspiracy theories about widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election. Mandel also spreads COVID-19 disinformation and has stated that the Founding Fathers would have “tarred and feathered Dr. Fauci.” Pukita is actively involved in the QAnon movement.
