For years, political attention focused on Washington, and scant attention was paid to the states. But those days are over.

First, the varying responses to COVID by governors across the country increased our awareness of what was going on in our state capitals. Sure, edicts from Washington influenced our lives, but it was our state governments that had the most impact on our businesses, schools, health decisions, and lockdown status.

Now the Supreme Court seems poised to send the abortion issue back to the states. If a leaked draft overturning Roe v. Wade becomes the Court’s official decision, suddenly the most divisive issue of our time will be played out in the states.

As the states become the battlefield for these and other crucial issues, expect more and more money to be spent on state politics. Transparency USA exists to make it easy to follow and understand that money.

It’s crucial that state governments are transparent, and that citizens hold state lawmakers, judges, and governors accountable. We help you do just that.

Our mission is to give citizens, journalists, activists, and voters access to the answers they need about the money in state politics. We provide easy-to-search, easy-to-understand information about the donors, politicians, and PACs operating in 11 key state capitals. (And a big announcement is coming soon!)
