Back in 2020 we witnessed Oklahomans come together to pass Medicaid expansion, despite opposition from the Governor and conservative state leadership.
In other words: they organized. And they won!
Right now the organizing community in Oklahoma is growing, innovating, and expanding, despite the odds – here’s more proof:
➡️ Efforts are underway to form the first-ever civic engagement table and grassroots donor alliance.
➡️ Last year, local activists captured national attention for their successful efforts to secure clemency for death row prisoner Julius Jones.
➡️ Demographics provide additional opportunities, with a fast-growing Latinx population that will turn Oklahoma City into a majority-minority city by 2030.
And did you know that Oklahoma is home to 39 federally-recognized native tribes? The most of any state in the nation. This is another clear opportunity for thoughtful voter engagement, if approached with attention, respect and care (as has not often been the case…)
Make no mistake: the political road ahead in Oklahoma is extremely difficult for those committed to a more just and equitable future for all. But that is precisely why Groundwork is choosing to work here.
I’m so proud to add Oklahoma as our newest partner state and can’t wait to see the impact we can make with organizers the ground.
I’m personally asking you to help us get to work immediately. Tonight is our first fundraising deadline since we announced our new partner state. Use this link to give now:
