We are at a crisis moment for abortion access, John. Team, Earlier this week, a report from Politico said that in a draft opinion, the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. First, let me make it clear: until a final ruling is made public, abortion remains legal in our country. However, if this draft opinion is issued, it marks a massive step backward for reproductive rights. Thirteen states already have "trigger bans" in place which will make abortion illegal overnight if Roe is overturned, and several more have passed extreme restrictions. Women in more than half of states will lose the freedom to make the most profoundly impactful healthcare decision of their lives -- when and whether to have a child. Look, this feels like a punch in the gut. As a doctor, I know that deeply personal reproductive decisions should be between patient and doctor. The government should never be in charge of these decisions. Overturning Roe will not stop abortions. It will push them later into pregnancy and make them less safe. And for those forced to carry a pregnancy they did not choose, that pregnancy carries real risks to their health. Consider that the maternal mortality rate in the United States is more than double the rate in Canada. Last year, with my pro-choice colleagues in the House, I helped pass the Women's Health Protection Act to codify Roe v. Wade and block states from enacting medically unjustified barriers to accessing abortion care. As the only pro-choice woman doctor in the House, I will continue to work to ensure that we protect this fundamental right for every woman, no matter where she lives -- but I need your help. Will you make a donation to my re-election campaign to help keep the only pro-choice woman doctor in Congress, so I can continue fighting for reproductive rights? Thank you, Kim
To hold the House majority, we must re-elect Rep. Kim Schrier in WA-08. Will you chip in to protect Kim's seat and the Democratic House majority in 2022?
