On Tuesday, Trump-endorsed J.D. Vance won the crowded Senate Republican primary in Ohio. Now, Donald Trump is looking to influence a victory here in Maryland with our right-wing opponent Dan Cox. We’ve got to be ready. We can’t underestimate Trump’s influence in the Republican party, and we can’t underestimate the real threat his hand-picked candidates would pose as governor. Trumpian candidates like J.D. Vance and Dan Cox will do everything they can to undo the progress we’ve made since Trump left office – so it’s up to us to stop them from getting the chance. Trump’s backing of the out-of-touch extremist hack J.D. Vance played a huge factor in propelling him to win BIG, and we’re concerned that since Dan Cox has Trump backing him too, he could go all the way.
---------- Forwarded message --------- This past weekend at a Western Maryland Gubernatorial forum, my Trump endorsed opponent stood onstage just a few feet from me and tried to erase my family history with far-right lies about “cultural Marxism” being taught in public schools. Let me be clear: Delegate Dan Cox wants to use dog whistle politics to divide Marylanders, and I refuse to stand idly by. We need a leader who unites us, and I will never back down from stepping up to speak out against hate like this in any form. Dan Cox is a right-wing extremist who organized buses to the January 6th insurrection. He would destroy so much of the progress we’ve made on everything from reproductive and LGBTQ+ rights to gun violence prevention and public education funding. Acknowledging the truth of our history is how we learn from it, and Dan Cox’s erasure of my family’s history of enslavement is unacceptable. As I stood on that stage, one other thought was nagging me — why aren’t more candidates in Maryland and across the country willing to stand up and fight back against the far right’s lies and racist propaganda? Marylanders deserve a leader who will combat hate and defend them on every front. Can I count on you to stand with me?
