Hi John,
You’ve probably heard the news already, but I wanted to reach out
personally. On Tuesday evening, I called Congressman Ryan to congratulate
him on his victory, and I wanted to reach out to you now, about this
campaign and everything we’ve accomplished.
First, I need to say thank you. If you volunteered with us, invested in
this campaign, voted in the primary on Tuesday, posted about the campaign
on social media, or even just read our emails – thank you. From the bottom
of my heart, I am so grateful for all of your support.
Second, I want to talk about this campaign, which has been an incredible
experience. I’ve gotten the chance to travel across the state, meet
Ohioans anywhere they’d take a minute to talk, and learn from them. And
what I’ve learned over the course of this campaign is that Ohioans have a
lot that they want from their leaders, and they have a lot that they’re
not getting.
They want universal healthcare. People who I’ve met have told me time and
again, they need access to high-quality healthcare, and that they’re tired
of having to go into debt just to get the care that they need.
They want to be paid a living wage. I’ve met grandparents who are raising
their grandchildren, and working in minimum wage jobs that barely cover
their costs. We absolutely need a $15 federal minimum wage, and that is
the floor, not the ceiling.
They want access to high quality education, and that starts with pre-k
through 12. I’ve heard from kids, parents, and teachers across the state
that they just aren’t getting what they need. We have to change that — and
we have to fund schools equally, regardless of ZIP code.
They want their rights to be protected. Women in Ohio want the right to
choose what they do with their own bodies. They want to be able to be who
they are – to be gay, to be trans, and to not be discriminated against.
They don’t want regressive policies from the GOP that seek to move us back
in time.
They truly want Ohio to be a state of the future. I do too. If we want to
get there, we absolutely can not let J.D. Vance win this Senate seat in
November.
All the things that we know Ohioans want, and what my campaign has been
about – creating hundreds of thousands of jobs in the clean energy
economy, raising the minimum wage so it’s an actual living wage,
supporting small businesses, and passing the PRO Act to strengthen unions
– these aren’t things that J.D. Vance or the GOP care about or will fight
to get done. And those are things that we absolutely must fight for.
Republicans will continue to drag us backwards, as we’re seeing at the
federal level, with the horrifying news that SCOTUS plans to overturn Roe
v Wade. I’ve heard from people across Ohio who have been afraid that this
decision was coming – younger women who are wondering what this will mean
for their futures, older women who are afraid that we’re going backwards,
even after decades of fighting for progress. We can’t go back. We must
defend abortion access
It’s simple: we can’t afford to elect another Republican Senator from
Ohio.
We must stand together to make sure that Ohio flips blue this fall, and
I’m committed to making that happen. When I spoke with Congressman Ryan
earlier this week, I told him I will do whatever I can to help him in the
coming months.
This campaign has been an incredible experience – and I want to make clear
that you haven’t heard the last from me, Ohio. But right now I’m going to
take a deep breath, maybe a long weekend, and then I’ll be right back
fighting alongside you all.
