Dear John,
There’s less than two weeks until New York’s highest court will hear arguments in Happy’s case. A reminder that you can join us on the day both in-person and virtually, and that in the days leading up to this historic legal milestone for the NhRP and the nonhuman rights movement as a whole, there are some important ways you can help #FreeHappy:
- We’ve extended the deadline for #FreeHappy video and photo submissions! Please continue to send in your video or photo messages saying why you want to see Happy free. For more details and the submission form, click here.
- Share the rally and hearing Facebook event page on your chosen social media to spread the message.
- If you can’t make it to Albany, please watch and share the livestream of the pre-hearing rally (including speeches from NhRP Founder and President Steven M. Wise and Happy’s attorneys) and the Court’s livestream of the arguments at freehappynow.com starting at 12pm E.T on May 18th.
- Meet Monica Milller, the NhRP attorney who’ll argue Happy’s case, on a special Zoom seminar where she’ll discuss how the NhRP is preparing for arguments. For more details and to register, click here.
- Sign and share widely this Change.org petition to free Happy to a sanctuary.
- See our blog on all the ways to help #FreeHappy now.
Finally, please consider donating towards the legal costs involved in Happy’s case. Currently, the NhRP is deep in final preparations to argue before the New York Court of Appeals, which will have the chance to right the tremendous wrong of Happy’s 45 years of imprisonment by the Bronx Zoo and the Wildlife Conservation Society. By supporting this legal fight, you are standing up for urgently needed change in how nonhuman animals like Happy are viewed and treated under the law.
Thank you,
Mickey Suzuki
Development Director, the NhRP
