While much more needs to be done to address the global impacts of the Ukraine crisis, this bill would increase America's ability to welcome Afghans and Ukrainians fleeing for their lives. The bill could:
- Fund expedited overseas processing for Ukrainians seeking resettlement to the U.S. as refugees;
- Fund critical integration programming for Ukrainians in the U.S., such as English and job readiness classes, trauma-informed mental health services, and other critical supports;
- Create a pathway for Afghan evacuees with humanitarian parole to stay in the U.S. permanently through the inclusion of an Afghan Adjustment Act.
All refugees seeking protection from war, persecution, conflict, or natural disaster deserve viable pathways to safety and security, regardless of their country of origin, race, religion, color, or creed. These provisions would help ensure the best possible welcome for our new neighbors.
It only took me a few moments to make my voice heard on behalf of so many. I hope you'll join me in calling, emailing and tweeting at your elected officials to support these key provisions in this bill. |
