Newsletter of the Goethe-Institut Washington

Dear Friends,

EU Open House 2022 will be taking place in-person this year! On Saturday, May 14, Goethe-Institut Washington will be at the German Embassy from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Stop by to find out what we've been up to since reopening our doors this spring.

Join us this weekend for the unveiling of Meet Hannah Arendt!, a new interactive performance piece directed by Natsu Onoda Power. Audience members will encounter five Hannahs — five performers embodying Hannah Arendt at five different stages of her life. She may be a sassy child reading Kant; she may be a new émigrée to the US, having escaped Nazi Germany; she may be a well-respected professor facing controversy for her newest book. You are invited to sit with the Hannahs, and to discuss all manners of topics, big or small, public or private, historical or contemporary.

The Washington, DC-Baltimore area is home to outstanding local authors and book creators who work in historical nonfiction, young adult nonfiction, historical monograph, and more. On Tuesday, May 17, we invite you to meet three of these individuals, all of whom have recently published works that occupy a cultural and historical intersection of the United States and Germany.
