Hi John—Ghost guns are untraceable, DIY firearms that look like a gun and kill like a gun, but are not regulated like a gun. Thanks to a deadly loophole in current law, it has been easy for anyone, from domestic abusers to children, to get their hands on a ghost gun, no questions asked and no background check required.

Thankfully, the Biden Administration has taken action to close the ghost gun loophole and keep these guns out of our communities. This action will make sure that ghost guns are treated like the deadly weapons they are.

Ghost guns don't have serial numbers and don't require background checks, which makes them appealing to gun traffickers and people intent on causing harm. These weapons are showing up at more and more crime scenes across the country. In 2021, ATF recovered more than 20,000 ghost guns involved in criminal investigations. That number is rising at alarming rates.

The new rules Biden proposed include: Requiring anyone purchasing a kit to undergo a background check, as is required for other firearms; Requiring sellers of ghost gun kits to mark components with a serial number so the weapon can be traced; Mandating that firearm dealers add a serial number to already built ghost guns they come across in their businesses.

No one should be able to circumvent existing gun laws. The Biden Administration’s new rules will close the ghost gun loophole to help ensure that they can’t. Add your name now to show your support for keeping our communities safe.
