Right now in Somalia, 90% of the country is in a severe drought after three consecutive rainy seasons failed. A fourth failed rainy season is expected and conditions will worsen.

Many people have lost everything – their land, livelihoods, and even their family members. While immediate humanitarian aid, like providing food and cash vouchers, provides temporary relief for people, a sustained response is critical.

A group of generous donors has already contributed to our Matching Gift Challenge Fund to encourage donors like you to match their gifts. We have set a goal of raising $465,000 by May 10 in matching gifts to support our team members working to help families overcome urgent challenges like hunger, poverty, and conflict. When you make a matching gift, your contribution will be combined with theirs to make an even greater impact.

These are just a few examples of the work Mercy Corps is doing to help communities around the world address hunger at its source. That’s why we also partner with people experiencing hunger to help them address the issues that prevent them from growing or buying food in the first place.

As climate change and conflict drive more families to the brink of starvation, the importance of Mercy Corps’ holistic approach to hunger becomes even clearer. Your gift today can help people emerge from crises even stronger than they were before.
