Friend,
This week, I’ve joined protests in response to the draft Supreme Court opinion overturning Roe v. Wade.
We must continue to fight back at all levels, within our communities and beyond. I will keep fighting in Congress to keep abortion legal and to ensure that every person who seeks an abortion can get one.
If this draft opinion becomes reality, it will have a particularly massive impact on people who already experience disproportionate challenges in healthcare access, including trans and queer people, people working to make ends meet, and Black women and children.
In addition, the draft opinion shows that the radical right intends to come after other rights next, including marriage equality, the right to contraception, and potentially any rights not specifically named in the Constitution.
Senate Democratic leaders cannot sit by while Republicans tear apart the foundations of our democracy and our human rights. The House codified Roe and now it’s the Senate’s turn. They want to take away our most basic freedom and autonomy as humans: control over our own bodies.
This moment calls for bold action from Senate Democrats to abolish the filibuster and finally pass legislation to protect and expand abortion rights.
I am in Congress to deliver transformational change on behalf of our communities. That’s why we worked so hard to elect Democrats this past election, including President Joe Biden to the White House.
Together, in 2020, we turned traditionally red states into toss-up states. Now we must deliver for working people and marginalized communities―protecting and expanding our right to an abortion, our right to vote, our right to healthcare, our right to earn a fair wage with benefits, and so much more.
So much is at stake, and people are counting on our federal government. The majority of Americans support and need progressive policies that raise wages, combat poverty, and undo generations of systemic injustices―and we have power in Congress and the White House to put those in place.
Unless Democrats boldly shift in a much more progressive and proactive direction, we’re going to lose the rights we’ve fought so hard for.
Can you chip in $5 to send me back to Congress to keep fighting for our rights and building progressive power in Congress?
