The blowback against the Department of Homeland Security’s so-called “Disinformation Governance Board” a.k.a. “Ministry of Truth,” gets better and better.

Yesterday, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas took responsibility for picking Nina Jankowicz to lead the new disinformation board, which has been operational for months but was only revealed to Congress last week.

In an embarrassing Senate committee hearing, Mayorkas was derided for his claim that the 33-year-old Jankowicz was an expert in disinformation.

“Yeah, I can tell,” joked one senator, who pointed to Jankowicz’s false claims about Hunter Biden’s laptop, false claims about the infamous “Steele Dossier,” and disdain for the First Amendment in general.

Another Republican joked that Mayorkas himself might get flagged for disinformation for claiming the southern border is under “operational control.”

Most tellingly, Mayorkas called the Disinformation Governance Board a mere “working group,” insisted the board has no operational capacity or authority, and admitted he did a poor job rolling out the new “working group.”

These are all strong indicators that the department is reeling from the backlash and trying to make this all go away.

But make no mistake: Mayorkas’ claim that the board is only going to police the Department of Homeland Security itself, “to make sure there are policies in place” to “protect” free speech rights, is absurd.

If the board’s only job was to protect free speech within DHS, it wouldn’t have been called the “Disinformation Governance Board” and Mayorkas wouldn’t have put Nina Jankowicz, with a strong history of spreading lies, in charge.

Furthermore, Mayorkas’ testimony conflicts with a previous statement to lawmakers that the department formed the board “to tackle misinformation and disinformation targeting minority communities.”

Was he lying then, lying now, or both?

This is why now is the time to double down and demand Congress defund the board.

Right now, they’re scrambling to pass spending bills so they don’t have to be in Washington, D.C. in the days and weeks leading up to the elections.

If we don’t stop it now, the agency will certainly engage in what Jankowicz frequently calls “disinformation laundering” – legitimizing fake news by putting the government’s rubber stamp on fake stories.

Based on Mayorkas’ remarks yesterday, it’s very likely the board will also seek to expose and remove any truth-telling patriots within the Department of Homeland Security.

And they will almost certainly pressure social networks into banning anyone who disputes the government’s false claims, as they did with Covid-19, the Hunter Biden laptop story, and countless others.

This new agency is a brazen assault on the First Amendment, and with momentum on our side, it’s more important than ever we tell Congress to shut it down NOW.
