At a time when Roe is heavily under attack by Republicans, we need bold progressives who will fight hard for abortion rights.
TODAY, you can meet one of them on Zoom -- Jamie McLeod-Skinner -- the progressive congressional candidate taking on the "Joe Manchin of the House," Rep. Kurt Schrader (OR-5).
After the horrifying news of the draft Supreme Court decision broke this week, Jamie shared this on Twitter: "My opponent voted three times against expanding abortion access and called the Hyde Amendment 'a good balance' for a 'diversity of views.' In Congress, I will fight to make sure abortion rights are codified into federal law."
Thousands of donations have already come in -- so if you can’t make it, but feel inspired by Jamie, chip in here!
Like AOC, Cory Bush, and Jamaal Bowman before her, Jamie is taking on an entrenched incumbent who has lost touch with voters -- selling his soul to stuff his campaign coffers with corporate donations.
How bad is it? ABC News reports "Schrader opposed a $15 minimum wage and a proposal to contain prescription drug prices, and he initially voted against last year’s $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill." He even likened the Trump impeachment trial for Jan 6 to a "lynching."
Jamie is a no-nonsense engineer, attorney, and former union member. Her mom drove a school bus, taught special ed, and picked fruit in the summers. She hasn’t forgotten her roots.
Jamie is drawing contrasts with Schrader on Medicare drug price negotiation, the Build Back Better climate provisions, holding corporations accountable, student debt relief, banning congressional stock trading, raising the minimum wage, and union power.
This event is free, but if you’re inspired by Jamie, chip in $3 to her campaign here.
Thanks for being a bold progressive.
