John,
The news out of the Supreme Court this week has made it clear: Republicans will try to ban abortion anywhere they have power. Re-electing Governor Janet Mills and pro-choice majorities in Augusta will be our best defense to protect abortion access in Maine.
Her opponent, Paul LePage, has repeatedly made calls to overturn Roe, directly targeted abortion rights as governor, and just re-affirmed he’d roll back abortion access in Maine if given the opportunity.
We know that this week has been terrifying and overwhelming, but right now the surest strategy to protect reproductive rights in Maine is keeping Janet Mills in the Blaine House and Democrats in the majority in Augusta. Our elected Democrats are all that’s standing in the way of Paul LePage banning abortion.
With Gov. Mills and Democrats holding the gavels in Augusta, we can strengthen reproductive rights and expand health care access in Maine, but let’s not forget how we got to this moment — Susan Collins. Reproductive rights activists begged her not to confirm Justice Kavanaugh.
Everyone knew Kavanaugh would vote to overturn Roe, but Susan Collins did what she always does and put party before people. Maine Republicans don’t care about what’s best for Mainers, just what’s best for the GOP.
We need to protect reproductive freedom in Maine. We need to re-elect Janet Mills and Democrats up and down the ballot.
Thank you,
Maine Dems
