The nation's leading non-profit shareholder advocate, changing corporations for good

Dear John,

You already know 2020’s shaping up to be a year of consequence. The risks and realities of our changing climate and vast social inequities are growing more urgent by the day.

You know it, we know it — the good news is we CAN do something about it.

DONATE TODAY

You have a part in all of it — and so does As You Sow. Our part requires support from you. It’s your partnership that puts shareholder power to work for good. YOU — share authorizers, socially responsible investors, Invest Your Values search tool users, interested civic participants — are creating the change. Your donation powers everything.

Thanks to you, this year saw substantive change for good at some of the biggest corporations in the world —

  • Four of the top 20 largest power utilities are now committed to net-zero emissions by 2050
  • Monster Beverage is instituting best practices for eradicating modern slavery in its supply chain
  • Amazon unveiled a ‘Shipment Zero’ initiative promising net-zero emissions by 2040 and 100% renewable energy use by 2030
  • General Mills has set goals to reduce pesticide use in its supply chain
  • Pepsi committed to reduce virgin plastic content in its beverage packaging

Shareholder power creates real impact. Shareholders voicing concern can change corporate practices — for the benefit of us all.

However …

Shareholder Rights are Under Attack — Again

Last year, the shareholder community beat back an attempt by Congress to protect corporations by hamstringing shareholder rights. Now the SEC is trying again, proposing draconian new limits on shareholders’ ability to engage the companies they own.

Challenging that determination to silence our voice takes time, effort, and a lot of resources — from people like us, who know the landscape.

We’ve been using shareholder resolutions to change corporations for good for over 27 years. We understand how shareholder advocacy works, for all of us — and what we’ll lose if it’s restricted or taken away.

Your gift helps challenge these rules. The need is NOW. The SEC’s rule changes could take effect in early 2020.

Your gift helps make sure shareholders – all of us – can continue to fight for a safe, just, and sustainable world for all.

Corporate Accountability is Vital

We can’t allow the SEC to cripple shareholder rights. The ability of shareholders to hold corporations accountable is vital to our future.

We MUST fight back.

Your gift today helps protect and preserve shareholder power. Your gift makes sure the shareholder resolution process keeps working, for ALL of us.
