New Orleans DSA - Update

Hello!

It’s time to act. The far right has connived and plotted for 50 years to deny our right to bodily autonomy, and now that they’re on the cusp of success, the democrats and big fundraising apparatuses have zero plan to stop them. It’s on us, working class New Orleanians, to step up and fight back!

New Orleans DSA will be organizing with the ACLU, Freedom Road Socialist Organization, Real Name Campaign, CPUSA and Women with a Vision among others for a Rally this Saturday, May 7th at 5pm, at the steps across from Jackson Square. This is a space to make our voices heard but also to push for real and impactful ways to decriminalize people seeking reproductive healthcare.

Here are our demands:

Say NO to Criminalizing Reproductive Healthcare We demand Mayor Cantrell and District Attorney Williams refuse to enforce any laws criminalizing abortion. We want an affirmative representation that laws criminalizing abortion will not be enforced. Tacit agreement with this position is not enough.

See Something? Say Nothing. We call on all major hospital networks (Oschner, LCMC, Touro) enact a “No Snitching” policy, and refuse to report to authorities any patient experiencing a miscarriage or other signs of a self-managed abortion

Say NO to Louisiana State Police in New Orleans We demand the Mayor order Louisiana State Police OUT of New Orleans. Even if the City agrees not to prosecute under the coming anti-choice laws, residents may still be subject to enforcement by LSP. New Orleans should be able to self-govern, without outside interference.

If you’d like to help organize this rally, or pitch in on what will be a long struggle for our rights, you can join us in the #roevwade in our members-only Slack. If you are not on our Slack, have any questions, or are unsure of your membership status, please email us and we'll get you sorted out.

Solidarity,

New Orleans DSA Local Council
