John, we need your help today ( [link removed] ) to ensure their survival and protect our planet.

There’s no time to lose in the race to save our closest living relatives and their forest homes.

Every day, great apes are under unprecedented threat from habitat destruction, the illegal wildlife trade and bushmeat hunting. That’s why we’re raising urgent funds through our Apes on the Edge appeal ( [link removed] ) to support their conservation in the Dja Biosphere Reserve, Cameroon, where the survival of species, including gorillas and chimpanzees, plays a vital role in protecting the environment.

£10 could support a Great Ape Guardian for a week, helping them to raise awareness and encourage local people to protect apes.

PROTECTING APES WILL PROTECT THE PLANET ( [link removed] )

Like elephants, great apes are keystone species. This means without them, their home, the wildlife that share it, and the valuable ecosystem services we rely on as humans, may cease to exist.

As they feed, they not only prune trees, creating gaps of sunlight in the treetop canopy and allowing other plants and animals to thrive on the forest floor, but they also disperse seeds and fertilise soil with their droppings, maintaining the health of the forest.

Trees growing from seeds in great ape dung help prevent climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. Rainforests pump water back into the atmosphere that deliver rain thousands of miles away.

In his latest blog for Born Free – Planet of NO Apes? ( [link removed] ) – ape advocate and leading expert, Ian Redmond OBE, says: “By saving apes and their habitat, we save countless other species. It may seem like an insurmountable task, but by working together we can make a difference. We all benefit from forests so, surely, we all have a part to play in protecting them and therefore the apes that live there?”

YOU CAN HELP PROTECT APES WHO HELP PROTECT YOU FROM CLIMATE CHANGE ( [link removed] )

YOUR gift today ( [link removed] ) will make a huge difference. By giving just £10, our life saving Great Ape Guardians can promote coexistence between humans and wildlife, help protect endangered gorillas, chimpanzees and other vulnerable species and support sustainable agro-forestry as an alternative income to bushmeat.

Together, we can make a real difference and ensure a bright future for great apes and their habitats. Please donate what you can today.
