Dear John,

Fighting for dignity means fighting for a woman’s right to protect herself and the freedom to control her body. In the wake of the Supreme Court’s stunning draft decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, today I was honored to join a powerful rally in Milwaukee for human rights.

If Roe is overturned, an 1849 law would likely go into effect in Wisconsin, criminalizing all abortions, except when a mother’s life is at risk. This measure is unacceptable, even to many conservatives.

In this divisive time, we need to build greater empathy in this conversation, humanizing the real stories behind reproductive health and family planning. As a U.S. Senator, I will convene these inclusive conversations across Wisconsin and widen support for dignity and healthcare in our country. I believe there are opportunities for higher ground with people across the political spectrum—from reducing unplanned pregnancies to ensuring kids are able to thrive. And, together we must uphold a fundamental principle in America: the Constitutional right to personal freedom, including women’s decisions about their bodies.

Let’s also look at how we got here. The way we fill the Supreme Court has lost all credibility. The lives of millions of people shouldn’t hinge on the personal health of Justices in their 80s. It’s time for Supreme Court term limits. I’m proud to be the only Wisconsin U.S. Senate candidate on either side of the aisle calling for this reform.

Join us in the fight for a different kind of politics and dignity for all.

Yours,
Steven
