Real talk, John:
Reproductive justice is in jeopardy. The rights of women are imperiled.
Justice Alito’s draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade means the Supreme Court appears ready to rip reproductive rights away from women across the country – Constitutional rights that have been recognized as settled law for half a century.
Republican state governments, including Georgia's, have been preparing for this day by enacting trigger laws to restrict or outlaw abortion entirely if Roe is ever struck down.
John, it now looks like Roe will be struck down. Abortion access is about to become extremely limited for tens of millions of women. And low-income Americans and people of color are going to be the hardest hit – those who can’t afford to take time off from work and travel to another state hundreds of miles away just to access basic reproductive health care.
Women are about to be told that they no longer have control over their bodies, and countless Americans will be robbed of the chance to decide if, when, and how to start or grow a family. I’m going to do everything in my power to stop this atrocity. But right now, we need to think about the people across the country who are going to be devastated by the new reality we’re facing.
You can help by making a contribution to an abortion fund to help those in need of care. To make an impact in Georgia and surrounding states, visit Access Reproductive Care (ARC) – Southeast’s website to find out how to donate or get involved: [link removed]
