When I flipped the 7th district in 2020, I beat an extremist Republican who didn’t believe women should have an abortion even if they were likely to die in childbirth. This sentiment wasn’t shocking to me, considering just the year before Georgia passed extreme anti-choice legislation that made national headlines for effectively  criminalizing abortion. This law, which was initially blocked by the courts, could very likely go into effect if Roe is overturned. This will be an absolute disaster for women.

As a refresher, some highlights of Georgia’s law:

❌ Banning abortion at 6 weeks into a pregnancy — when many women don’t even know they are pregnant
❌ Women who seek an abortion could face life in prison [[link removed]]
❌ Prosecutors could charge women who have a miscarriage with second-degree murder which carries a penalty of 10 to 30 years in prison
❌ Prosecutors could charge women who get legal abortions outside of Georgia with conspiracy to commit murder [[link removed]]
❌ Prosecutors could charge someone who helps a woman get an abortion — like a rideshare driver — as an accessory to murder.

I know this all sounds crazy; it sounds like something clipped from The Handmaid's Tale, but this bill was actually passed by the state legislature and signed by Governor Kemp before being blocked in the courts. Now Roe is about to fall and with it any safeguard against this law becoming a reality for women in Georgia.

We must codify Roe into law and protect reproductive rights. I have beaten anti-choice extremists before and I have found ways to get difficult legislation through Congress. Now I face a tough re-election at the end of this month and I need your help to continue this fight.
