According to a draft opinion, the Supreme Court is set to overturn Roe v. Wade, taking away the rights and freedoms our daughters grew up counting on -- and turning them over to politicians.
This has been the GOP agenda for decades. Republican lawmakers have introduced hundreds of anti-choice laws -- including in Ohio -- to force the Supreme Court to dismantle Roe.
While the Supreme Court’s decision is imminent and will have serious consequences, I can’t stress this enough:
Elections matter.
This isn’t just about Roe. Make no mistake -- anti-choice lawmakers are testing the limits of what they can get away with. Birth control could be next. Marriage equality could be next. All of our most personal decisions about our families could be at risk.
In this year’s election and in elections to come, we need to elect leaders -- up and down the ballot, in Ohio and across the country -- who will stand up for those freedoms. And that includes keeping and expanding our Senate majority this year.
We don’t know for certain if this draft opinion will become the Supreme Court’s final decision, but we do know we need to act now. Here are three things you can do:
- Make a contribution to strengthen our grassroots organization for the election ahead.
- Ask your friends on social media to get involved in the fight to protect Roe.
- Volunteer for a campaign in Ohio or in your state.
We’ve been afraid this might happen for a long time, but there’s always hope. Together, we can out-work and out-organize the GOP and the anti-choice extremists. I hope I can count on you to stay involved in our grassroots movement.
With gratitude,
Sherrod
