John,
This week, we received a glimpse into one of the many consequential decisions that the Supreme Court of the United States will hand down this session. If the leaked opinion holds, Roe v. Wade will be overturned. People will die as a result.
This jarring news made one thing absolutely clear: This radical Court doesn’t care about precedent, history, or the rights and health of women. And they’re just getting started.
We will hear soon from this Court about the most important gun violence prevention case in more than a decade. One that could move us closer to the guns everywhere extremism that the gun lobby has long sought. If the Supreme Court tells us that the gun lobby is more important than American lives, then we must be prepared to fight back.
The draft opinion leaked this week shows the Supreme Court could call into question the constitutional right to privacy – which protects not only abortion access, but also marriage equality and birth control access. If it goes down a similarly radical path on the Second Amendment, it could hand down a worst-case scenario decision and make permitless carry the law of the land, so virtually anyone could carry a gun – and shoot people – when they feel it’s necessary.
We cannot accept that vision. We will continue to fight with everything we have to protect and strengthen all lifesaving gun laws across the country. We will not rest until the Constitution protects the right of Americans to live free from gun violence. To make that happen, we need your help.
That’s why I’m asking you to give whatever you can right now and fund our fight to protect common-sense gun laws and save lives. [[link removed]]
