Dear John,

It would be an understatement to say this has been a big week for the pro-life movement.

I’m proud to say that many ISI faculty members and alumni are leading the charge to make intelligent, persuasive arguments for the dignity of the unborn.

I wanted to highlight their work and give you ISI resources to help deepen your understanding about the abortion debate, its relationship with the Supreme Court, and the intellectual defense of the life of the unborn.

Alexandra DeSanctis ([link removed]) started her journalism career as Executive Editor for our Notre Dame paper, the Irish Rover. After completing a Collegiate Network internship, DeSanctis began working with National Review, where she writes about the media’s pro-abortion bias and gives an honest account about the strength of the pro-life movement in America today.

As the leader of University of Chicago’s Law Students for Life, Elle Rogers knows how difficult it can be to stand up for the unborn on a progressive campus. Her group is severely underfunded and large portions of the student body regularly wear pro-abortion buttons to school in protest of their pro-life displays. But Elle refuses to back down and continues to advocate for a legal system that recognizes the humanity of the unborn and dignity of the family. In honor of her work and bravery, Elle Rogers has been selected as one ISI’s top 20 Under 30 students and alumni. She will receive the award during ISI’s second annual
Homecoming Weekend ([link removed]) .

On a December episode of Conservative Conversations with ISI ([link removed]) , Marlo Safi and I sat down with Josh Hammer, op-ed editor at Newsweek, to discuss Dobbs v. Jackson while it was being argued. Hammer not only provided a masterful breakdown of the case, he put it in the broader context of modern abortion precedents and the future of the conservative legal movement.

In 2005, ISI hosted a debate between philosopher Peter Kreeft and David Boonin on the question
Is Abortion Morally Justifiable in a Free Society? ([link removed]) Kreeft’s arguments are extremely accessible—rooting his case in common sense and the Western tradition.

No one can predict the future, and I’m not going to try.

Instead, as we await the court’s final decision, I’d like to recognize and celebrate the incredible members of the ISI community who are leading the way in the pro-life movement.
