Every day, women around the world give birth without medical assistance, dramatically increasing the risk of complications, and even death.

It doesn't have to be this way. We know what it takes to prevent these deaths: access to quality maternal care before, during, and after a baby is born—to ensure a mother has a safe pregnancy, survives birth, and can thrive throughout motherhood. But knowing this information is one thing, and acting on it is another.

We're looking for 830 donors to step up this week and make a gift to help Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) provide lifesaving maternal health care where it’s needed most. Friend, will you be one of them?

Every day, MSF teams help mothers overcome seemingly impossible odds to bring new life into the world.

• Ratiba, a young mother living in northwest Syria, was sleeping in a tent because her family was forced to flee their home. She drove two hours on a motorcycle while in labor to deliver at the only free medical facility she could find: an MSF-supported hospital in Idlib governorate.
• Fatima, a Yemeni woman surrounded by violent conflict, had no access to prenatal care throughout her pregnancy. She spent a week’s salary on transportation to MSF’s free clinic in Al Qanawis to give birth.
• Ester was about to give birth to twin girls in Bangassou, Central African Republic, when a coalition of armed groups attacked and took control of the city, forcing her and nearly 13,000 others to flee to Ndu, Democratic Republic of Congo, where MSF was ready to provide care.
