John,

For years, communities in northern Minnesota have been fighting back to
stop the expansion of the Enbridge Line 3 pipeline.

The proposal to extend Line 3 would directly connect the tar sands region
of Canada to Superior, WI — crossing 200 bodies of freshwater and
violating Ojibwe treaty rights to deliver 760,000 barrels of tar sands oil
a day^1.

With so much at stake, it’s unacceptable that most presidential candidates
haven’t openly declared opposition to Line 3, with the exception of Bernie
Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. That’s why our friends and allies at the
frontline of the fight to stop Line 3 are speaking up and asking
presidential candidates to oppose the pipeline.

Line 3 pipeline. Click here to tweet at every candidate to #StopLine3.

We’re living through a massive oil and gas boom in North America at the
worst possible time. Scientists have said we only have 10 years left to
drastically slash carbon emissions in time to prevent total climate
breakdown. And yet, oil and gas production in the US and Canada are
skyrocketing — this year, the US surpassed Saudia Arabia^2 as the world’s
top oil producer.

Electing a candidate who will stop new fossil fuel projects has to be a
top priority for this election. That’s why we’ve been meeting candidates
on the campaign trail all over this country to demand they commit to keep
fossil fuels in the ground.

Line 3 is just one of many oil and gas pipelines threatening communities
around the country and our climate, and if candidates want to be seen as
real climate leaders, they need to show us they’re willing to pick a side
and oppose the fossil fuel projects that are currently on the table.

[ [link removed] ]Don’t wait. Let’s raise the stakes in this election and stand with
frontline communities in the path of Line 3 by urging candidates to speak
out. Act now.

Let’s do this,

Clarissa
