Team – I'm thrilled to congratulate Nan Whaley and Cheryl Stephens on their victory in yesterday's gubernatorial primary. Nan is the governor we need right now and I know Cheryl is the best possible lieutenant governor to help her get Ohio on track.

We need their leadership now more than ever. With the Supreme Court poised to overturn Roe v. Wade, a strong pro-choice leader in the statehouse is a necessity. Nan has always fought for reproductive freedom, and we desperately need her clarity and toughness. And more importantly, we need someone who knows how to win.

As mayor of Dayton, Nan saw the city through a recovery that brought everyone in. To quote Nan, when you're mayor you can't say, "that's not my problem." And she rolled up her sleeves to tackle the opioid crisis, expand our schools, boost the economy, and lead the city through crisis. Dayton is on the rise, but if you know Nan, you know she couldn't stop there.

She saw what was happening in Ohio – the rich were getting richer while working families fell behind. Far-right Republicans in the legislature got more and more extreme while people across Ohio were asking for real solutions to the problems they faced. So she got into the governor's race to bring the lessons she learned in Dayton to the rest of the state.

Nan has a vision for Ohio where everyone can get ahead, not just the super-wealthy who trade favors. We can be a state where our kids have real opportunities. And we should have elected leaders who work as hard as everyday Ohioans who are fighting every single day to make ends meet. It's this simple: she wants your pay to go up, your bills to go down, and your government to actually work for you.

We've been building for this moment at the Ohio Democratic Party, so we won't sugarcoat it. This race is going to be tough. Ohio hasn't elected a Democratic governor since 2006. We've been drowned out by outside groups and dark money. But past does not have to be prologue. We CAN elect Nan, but only with your help.
