When “Jemma’s” doctor confirmed her pregnancy, the initial joy of motherhood was quickly extinguished as she remembered her reality.

She was unemployed, moving back and forth between relatives’ homes, and dealing with legal problems that made both housing and employment very difficult to find. Jemma felt deep apprehension about having another child. Her heart feared she would have to face tragedy again. Her last pregnancy ended with a preterm delivery followed by the infant’s death only days later.

Jemma thought about her life circumstances and her grief, and she panicked. She began calling around for information about abortion and ultimately reached out to Human Coalition’s National Contact Center. A call agent scheduled an appointment for her at one of our women’s care clinics for the next day.

During her appointment, Jemma poured her heart out to her counselor, explaining how she wanted to have her child. However, she could not bear the thought of losing another child the way she had lost her last one. And because of her circumstances, she felt she needed to abort.

During her appointment, Jemma received a free ultrasound, which revealed a little girl who was alive and growing. As she watched her child waving her tiny arms and legs, and heard the heartbeat, Jemma tried to stifle a growing desire to keep the daughter she was once was so sure she could not keep.

Our staff continued to follow up with Jemma, reassuring her. As they walked her through the help available to her, Jemma’s heart began to soften. After visiting her doctor again and having a few days to think, she told our clinic that she was determined to give her child a chance at LIFE. And a few months later, her healthy daughter “Jubilee” arrived!

Jemma felt confident and supported to choose life because of the care of people like you.
