The leaked draft ruling of Roe v. Wade has sparked outrage, grief, and concern. When abortion rights are overturned, a woman’s ability to seek reproductive health care is going to be more at risk than it has ever been in the last 50 years. This is unacceptable.
Thanks to Doe v. Gomez, Minnesota has state protections for abortion care. But unfortunately, the rest of the country must experience the consequences that come with a conservative majority in the U.S. Supreme Court. This recent decision shows us that our rights are under attack by justices whose ideologies do not align with the majority of the country. It also shows us that in just 98 pages, decades of women’s reproductive rights can be rolled back if power is in the wrong hands.
As upsetting and infuriating as this decision is, I want you to remember this feeling as we work towards election day in November. A majority matters. Democratic control of the State House and Senate matters. And, re-electing Governor Walz will ensure women are able to access the care they need.
This moment is heartbreaking for our country, but I have faith in our ability to overcome this challenge together. Pro-choice DFL legislators like me will do everything in our power to ensure that the right to an abortion is protected in the state of Minnesota.
I hope you join us in the long road ahead to stand up against these attacks and fight to protect a woman's right to make decisions about her own body. Show your support for reproductive rights by making a campaign contribution. With your help, Minnesota can win a pro-choice majority in November.
