It’s Teacher Appreciation Week! folks, I’m reflecting on the trip I was able to take to my old middle school in New York prior to the pandemic.
I had the opportunity to speak to students and tell them about my favorite teacher, Mrs. Alves back in 1983.
Unbeknownst to me, Mrs. Alves’ daughter was teaching at that same school, and I had the pleasure of meeting her as she continues her mother’s legacy and carries the torch of education.
I’m reaching out today to give you an opportunity to reflect on the educators that impacted your life, or the lives of your loved ones, like Mrs. Alves did for me in 1983.
Will you sign my card to show teachers in IL-06 and across the country how much we appreciate and value their hard work?
While signing this card is a small token of our gratitude, we still need policy solutions to address the fact that our nation’s teachers are severely overworked and underpaid.
That’s why I voted for the American Rescue Plan and the Build Back Better Act. These bills provide funding to schools to cope with the effects of Covid-19 to ensure more kids have access to quality education.
While I continue to fight for educators’ rights in Congress, will you sign on to my Teacher Appreciation Card today? I need 300 of you to sign on to send a strong message of gratitude.
Thank you,
Sean
