Friend,

We have a historic opportunity to support and strengthen a crucial new rule that mandates corporations to create climate disclosures.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) - dedicated to protecting investors and supporting the economy - is now accepting public comment on the rule, “The Enhancement and Standardization of Climate-Related Disclosures for Investors.”

This rule is needed since voluntary reporting by public companies on climate risks is profoundly insufficient for addressing corporate climate impacts. And the SEC needs to hear from Green Americans like you because Corporate America and Wall Street are pushing back against the rule and revealing the true extent of their climate-related financial risks.

The new rule also requires information on the role of management and boards of directors in overseeing progress on climate emission reductions.

To truly make a difference on climate, the rule also needs to be strengthened to include:

  • Strong provisions for working with Indigenous and other frontline communities impacted by the climate crisis and corporate operations.
  • Mandated disclosure of the breadth of corporate greenhouse gas emissions, including “Scope 3” emissions from companies’ value chains.  For many companies, Scope 3 emissions are the largest source of climate emissions, so it is crucial that they are disclosed and addressed.

Sign our petition to the SEC by May 15!

The climate cannot wait.

The SEC must mandate the disclosure of climate information that investors, companies, and stakeholders need to protect human rights and communities, the environment, and the economy.
