On Monday, news broke that five ultra-conservative Supreme Court Justices appear to have signed on to an initial opinion suggesting that they could overturn Roe v. Wade completely. If this ends up becoming a reality, abortion completely could immediately become illegal with no exceptions — even for the health of the mother — in numerous states. Republicans will likely seek to make it illegal nationwide.

Now, more than ever, Congress needs to act to codify the right to a safe and legal abortion. Add your name if you agree.

Republicans want to bring our country back to a time in which women were not allowed to make their own decisions about their bodies. Back to a time when the government could force people to give birth even if they did not want to — something that’s particularly cruel when many don’t have access to maternal healthcare, childcare, and paid parental leave.

And if the Supreme Court does overturn Roe, that could open the door for Republicans to roll back other important rights, such as the right to start a family using IVF – a process which allowed me to have my own children.

These right-wing Justices could also go after same-sex marriage and more. We can’t allow this to happen.

If you agree that Congress must act immediately to codify Roe so that the right to a safe and legal abortion is protected on the federal level, add your name here.

Truthfully, I’m angry that Republican legislators continue to wage war on women’s bodies fifty years after Roe. But it remains my hope that we can pass legislation that affirms the constitutional right to an abortion at the federal level.

Thank you for reading. I’ll be in touch with more updates soon.

All my best,

Tammy Duckworth
