As you know, news leaked that the Supreme Court is set to overturn Roe v. Wade – eliminating the constitutional right to an abortion. Since this is a draft decision, Roe v. Wade remains the law of the land and abortion is still legal – for now.
But should Roe be overturned, nearly half of the states in our country are expected to outright ban abortions – including right here in Michigan.
Michigan has one of the strongest anti-abortion laws on the books in our State Legislature – a 1931 law that would charge abortion providers with a felony. That’s why it’s absolutely critical that we flip the State Legislature and re-elect Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
In Congress, I’ve voted to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would codify Roe v. Wade into federal law – no matter what the Supreme Court decides.
But Republicans continue to block this bill’s passage, so it’s never been more urgent to protect and expand our Democratic House and Senate majorities.
