John, Meet Agamroop Kaur. 2022 Barrie Fiske National Youth Advocate of the Year Agamroop Kaur started her tobacco control advocacy in order to protect her family and community. After seeing the way that the tobacco industry infiltrated her surroundings, she created the documentary Big Tobacco, BIGGER Epidemic to call attention to the youth e-cigarette epidemic. By exposing the ways Big Tobacco targets kids, Agamroop is fighting so that her younger siblings, cousins and the students who come after her can learn and grow in a safe environment. |

“I stay motivated to take on the toughest fights by remembering the reason I started in the first place: my sister, my cousins, and my community.” |

This is the 25th and final installment in our Voices in the Fight series, which profiled 25 inspiring advocates from around the globe who we've worked with to reduce tobacco use and take on other critical public health challenges. The series kicked off with a profile of our very first National Youth Advocate of the Year from 1996, Anna Santiago Kiley. We now bring it full circle with a profile of our 2022 Barrie Fiske National Youth Advocate of the Year, Agamroop Kaur. Agamroop will be honored for her achievements at this year’s Youth Advocates of the Year Awards in Washington, D.C., on May 5th. We hope you found inspiration in the powerful and diverse voices featured in this profile series, a part of our year-long 25th Anniversary Celebration. And we look forward to seeing many of you to celebrate in person at the Youth Advocates of the Year Awards on Thursday. –The Tobacco-Free Kids team |
