Last night we all learned about the leaked U.S. Supreme Court opinion that would take away the right to safe, legal abortion access for millions of people across the country.

Like many of you – I’m fed up, and I’m fired up.

If Roe v. Wade is officially overturned, over 26 states are positioned to ban abortion. Here in Michigan, we have an archaic 1931 abortion ban that would go back into effect. Ours would be one of the most extreme bans in the nation. Senators Erika Geiss, Rosemary Bayer, Winnie Brinks, and I introduced bills to repeal these laws.

This evening, I spoke at the Planned Parenthood rally at the Michigan State Capitol and was inspired to see so many people of all ages and backgrounds ready to fight back.

Abortion is health care and the decision to carry a pregnancy forward should be made by the pregnant person and their doctor.

I am proud to be part of the pro-choice majority in this country and will always fight to protect reproductive freedom.

There is good news: We can get reproductive freedom on the ballot – literally. The Reproductive Freedom for All initiative is collecting petition signatures to enshrine the right to safe legal abortion in Michigan’s state constitution.

We are in for a tough fight – to make sure every person who can become pregnant can control their own future. We must continue to march, rally, and vote. We must organize and get people out to vote like never before.

This is our time. Women and people who can get pregnant are tough. We are resilient. We will not back down. And we will fight back until we win.
