The long-term erosion of the right to access a safe, legal and confidential abortion as healthcare has led us to this: an apparent Supreme Court decision that will overturn Roe v. Wade.



While Roe set a standard for generations and ensured safe abortion access for many, the bi-partisan failure to put the right to an abortion into federal law (or, even better, a Constitutional amendment) left it subject to a wheel of fortune of rotating Supreme Court appointees. That is no way to ensure the safety and autonomy of just over half of the population!



Democrats and Republicans have made this issue of healthcare into an issue of culture war, as a perpetual fundraiser and a prop for their duopoly.



We hear them loud and clear: our safety, the safety of our loved ones, was not as important as their hot-button issue.



And if you listen closely, you can hear this Supreme Court coming for marriage equality and LGBTQIA+ rights.



Leaving us dependent on Roe v. Wade for decades is a scathing indictment of the two-party state and Exhibit A for why the Green Party fights to transform this system. We must democratize our institutions from top to bottom to address the crises of our time. We encourage you to organize locally in advance of the Supreme Court’s final decision. While there is time to avert this catastrophe, if the decision comes to pass there will be much work needed on the front lines to support those for whom this basic healthcare has been shut down. This is a time for solidarity, strength and organizing to ensure this never happens again.
