Thank you for being a Badass, friend

This past Thursday evening on April 28, California Environmental Voters held its Badass In Green Awards, which celebrates leaders and innovators in the climate justice movement.

I’ve always been optimistic about our ability to solve the climate crisis, because we have the solutions, and I am so fired up after hearing from our four incredible honorees – Genesis Butler, Caroline Choi, Adam McKay, and Violet Sage Walker – who are providing and implementing climate solutions:

Randall Winston, Violet Sage Walker, Caroline Choi, AG Rob Bonta, Fran Diamond, Sen. Henry Stern, Genesis Butler, Asm. Laura Friedman, Sen. Sydney Kamlager.

Honoree Violet Sage Walker speaks about the commitment of the Chumash Tribe and her father in establishing the Chumash Tribal Marine Sanctuary in the Central Coast.

Honoree Genesis Butler, a 15-year-old environmental and animal rights activist, speaks about Youth Climate Save, a global organization that engages youth in climate activism.

The 2022 Badass In Green Awards was funded by a leading group of sponsors who are commitment to funding our climate mission.

The Centerpiece Speaker was California Attorney General Rob Bonta, who earlier that day subpoenaed ExxonMobil for its alleged role in the global plastic pollution crisis. Bonta also spoke about fighting for communities living at the intersection of injustice and environmental pollution.

A common theme in many of the speeches was the pervasiveness and influence of oil money in Sacramento, with far too many climate delayers halting necessary progress. Our Honorees and presenters put forth a vision and clear strategies that help to solve the climate crisis and build a clean energy economy, from electrification to conservation to food choices and more.

And friend, that vision is absolutely achievable if we work collaboratively in 2022 to ensure more climate champions from California are elected to office so that solutions can be implemented at the rate and scale science tells us is necessary.

Attorney General Bonta speaks about environmental justice and announces lawsuits against the largest corporate polluters.

Honoree Caroline Choi speaks about Southern California Edison’s commitment to help the state reach its clean energy goals.

Thank you to the many friends and members of the environmental community who attended and supported the event. For those of you who were unable to attend, you can still make a meaningful contribution to support our nonprofit mission to advance bold climate action →

Thanks again for your support.
