This is Emma, Jackie, and Jaelyn from the Iowa Senate Democrats. Last night, the draft SCOTUS decision revealed what we had all feared for some time — that the Supreme Court is poised to revoke a fundamental civil right by overturning Roe v. Wade.

The Iowa GOP has been working for years to restrict or even outright ban abortion here. Even today, our Governor recommitted herself to the “fight for life” in our state. If Roe is overturned, Iowans will almost certainly lose the right to an abortion. In light of all this, we are enraged, saddened, and frustrated.

Despite these feelings, we won’t be discouraged. This is why we do the work that we do. All three of us are deeply committed to fighting to keep abortion safe, legal, and accessible for all Iowans — that’s why we’re proud to work every day to elect Democrats to the Iowa Senate.

Abortion is currently legal in Iowa, but Republicans are already moving to remove the freedom to choose from Iowa’s constitution. It’s well past time to vote them out. If you agree, will you contribute to support our work of electing Democrats to the Iowa Senate?

We need to elect Democrats at the state level so that we can defend reproductive rights even if and when they are no longer protected at the federal level. We’re running out of time, and this work is more critical than ever.

We are upset, but we will not back down. Anything you can spare will make a big difference as we work to elect Democrats and defend the healthcare autonomy of all Iowans.
