John — Our community understands that progress is not linear, it takes one step forward only to fall two steps back. Last night’s news about the potential revocation of Roe vs. Wade is a devastating reminder of this reality. It’s okay to feel angry, frustrated, and overwhelmed. As queer people, it can feel like our bodies, what we choose to do with them, and how we choose to present them to the world are under continuous scrutiny. It’s like living under a microscope. We know full well that these decisions should be left to us, and we also know that anti-choice policy would have an overwhelmingly negative impact on the most marginalized communities under the LGBTQ+ umbrella — people of color, immigrants, people with disabilities, and people without unfettered access to healthcare. No matter what happens in the coming months, the entire LGBTQ+ community will stand together in the fight for equality and our basic human rights. Restrictive and dehumanizing legislation will not intimidate us. We will keep protecting our community, growing stronger, getting louder, and living unapologetically. Despite people who are out to silence and control us, the It Gets Better Project will continue to leverage its platform to amplify stories with the power to uplift and empower LGBTQ+ youth everywhere. We will fight to ensure the next generation has the authority and confidence to speak out against threats to their right to live freely and unapologetically. We will not stop fostering queer joy, resilience, and love.
