John.
I'll never forget January of 2017 when women across the country descended on Washington DC and state capitals across the country to send a message to Donald Trump: that we would fight like hell to defend our fundamental rights.
That set in motion a movement that won Democrats the House by historic margins a year later. But as fate would have it, Trump's presidency saw the appointment of not one, but three conservative Supreme Court Justices -- the most in one term since Ronald Reagan was in office.
Last night's news revealed what we all feared would happen: that Trump's remade Supreme Court would likely overturn Roe v. Wade. It wasn't hysteria, it was a genuine fear about what his election could mean. Fear of going back to a time that I remember all too clearly -- when women who desperately needed an abortion had to do so in secret and at their own risk.
This is a dark moment for our nation, but we have to remember what we’re capable of. A woman-led movement helped change the makeup of Congress after Trump. It’s time to reassemble and pressure our Democratic Congress to codify women's reproductive freedoms into law. Then, let's do everything we can to beat the Republicans in November, and make sure they never get the chance to attack our liberties again.
Yours in the fight,
Marisa Wood
