Hi Friend,
Last night Politico released an article sharing a draft majority opinion for the upcoming Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization Supreme Court case with the ruling that Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey would be overturned. If true, this would be absolutely devastating for young people and our communities, however this was simply a draft, not a final opinion from the Court. Let's be clear, overturning Roe would have serious negative impacts in many communities across the country and while this draft opinion is likely a heads up for what could be coming, today ABORTION IS STILL LEGAL.
It Is our priority to make sure you know that abortion remains legal across the country until a final opinion is issued and that you can still reach out to providers, abortion funds, and practical support organizations in your community to access the care you need.
We must do more than work to preserve the status quo. We know that whenever a decision comes down, it will disproportionately impact young low-income, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ communities. And this is by design.
These institutions and those in power have intentionally perpetuated harm against our communities in an attempt to silence and erase us. But we will not be silenced, and we will not be erased. Here’s what you can do:
Donate to a local abortion fund so people can still access abortions while it’s legal (see sources below)
Donate to Kansans for Constitutional Freedom. URGE Kansas joins KCF in the fight to preserve abortion rights for Kansans as a ballot measure on abortion ban is scheduled to appear on this year’s primary ballot. We must mitigate the harm this opinion will trigger when it becomes official as much as possible. We have a chance to do that in Kansas.
Help URGE continue our commitment to going beyond Roe. URGE will continue to be abortion-positive and that is evidenced by our advocacy for all forms of safe abortion, including SMA. Sign up for an SMA training, share our Zine, or donate.
As we brace for a final opinion we will continue to work toward a world where Reproductive Justice is a reality. At the end of this email you will find more information on resources to take action.
