Last night, in a leaked draft opinion in
Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, we got to see exactly how the far-right extremists in charge of the Supreme Court are preparing to overturn
Roe v. Wade.
This news is devastating. If you’re like me you’ve probably cycled through a lot of feelings over the last 24 hours. Rage, frustration, sadness, more rage.
5 justices — a majority of whom were installed by Presidents who lost the popular vote — should
not have the final say over the rights and lives of millions of Americans.
But this leaked draft just shows us what we already knew: The anti-abortion majority on the Supreme Court is poised to cut off millions of people’s access to abortion care — and it seems eager to do so as cruelly and vindictively as possible.
Ending the right to abortion has been at the top of the Republican wish list for decades. It’s why they packed the Supreme Court, and it’s exactly why we must codify abortion rights into law and expand the Court to protect our rights from these justices who are so deeply hostile to them.
Right-wing extremists want us to feel powerless — but we’re not. Eight in ten Americans support access to safe, legal abortion. It’s not too late to stop this perversion of justice and democracy.
Now’s not the time to give up. It’s time to ramp up the fight.
