The draft majority opinion from the Supreme Court confirms our worst fears: The Court is about to overturn Roe v. Wade and set reproductive rights back decades. Reproductive rights should not stop and start at state lines — but that’s exactly what has started happening in Texas and what we could see all across the country. Twenty-six states are likely or certain to ban abortions when Roe is overturned. New Mexico will soon be the closest state to provide abortions for nearly 2 million people in Texas, Arizona, and other surrounding states. This decision will make the inequity in our country worse. And it’s the first step onto a slippery slope that threatens our fundamental and foundational right to privacy. Time is of the essence here. I won’t stop fighting to codify Roe into federal law through the Women’s Health Protection Act — and that includes getting rid of the filibuster to make it happen.
We need to enshrine reproductive rights into law once and for all. Thanks for your support on this. – Martin |
