Yesterday, Politico published a leaked draft of the Supreme Court’s majority decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

This is a draft majority opinion, so for now, abortion is still legal. The final decision is expected in late June.

But it’s likely that the Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade, given that the majority of justices are conservative, including those appointed by Trump specifically for this purpose. If that happens, abortion would likely become illegal in about half of states.  

Even with the right to choose abortion in place for nearly 50 years, hundreds of anti-abortion restrictions have been enacted in 42 states—denying many people the ability to get the care they need when they need it.

The right to choose has not meant the right to access abortion, especially for people of color working to make ends meet, who are up against systemic barriers.

That’s why we’ve got to support abortion funds now, which provide the care that every person seeking out an abortion deserves—helping people pay for often-expensive procedures.

As the reproductive justice movement has shown us, there is no choice without access. And Roe v. Wade has never been enough to guarantee access.

But without it, access to abortion care will get significantly harder. Especially for people who already face systemic racism, economic insecurity, and undocumented immigration status.
