Forest Loss Remained Stubbornly High in 2021 

The world lost 3.75 million hectares of tropical primary rainforests last year, a rate equivalent to 10 football pitches a minute, according to new analysis from WRI and University of Maryland. This forest loss resulted in 2.5 gigatons of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to India’s annual fossil fuel emissions. WRI experts reveal this and other key findings on the state of the world’s forests.
