Dear John,

Daraa. My father's hometown. The spark of the 2011 peaceful revolution for democracy, equality, and an end to corruption.

While I grew up in Michigan, my own story has strong connections to the brave Syrians in my family and their neighbors and friends who said “No More!” to tyranny. What happens in Syria matters to me, deeply.

It’s one of the reasons why I have made it my career as a lawyer to fight for democracy and the human rights of vulnerable people here in the United States, including Syrians stranded here while Assad’s war rages back home. It’s why I have engaged the international community to make sure Assad is not normalized, and he and his backers, Russia and Iran, are held accountable for their atrocities.

In Syria, no one had free elections. That's why I engage my elected officials. It's my responsibility to exercise my rights, as an American, that my parents didn't have back home. It’s why I am a part of Americans for a Free Syria, which advocates every day in Washington for a Syria that is led by democratically-elected representatives and respects the human rights of all individuals.

Left to right: Muna Jondy, Jomana Quaddour, Rep. Seth Moulton

During my recent visit to the U.S. Congress, I saw in the clearest terms why our work matters. Members of Congress like Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) care about America’s leadership in the world. They know why what happens in Syria matters. They speak out for Syrian civilians like my family, and yours.

But they need us to support them as they push for a better Syria policy. AFS is positioned in Washington as a critical influence on how Congress and the Trump Administration engage in Syria.

Giving Tuesday is one week from today. Please consider supporting AFS with your donations to ensure Syrians one day enjoy the democratic freedoms we enjoy here in the United States.

Thank you for your commitment to freedom and democracy at home and in Syria.

Sincerely,

Muna Jondy
Policy Chair, Americans for a Free Syria
